OUR MISSION
1.
To create an environment wherein, all fathers regardless of their economic status or relationship to the mother of their child(ren), will have the opportunity to be viewed as an asset to their children's well-being and to experience a direct and unencumbered engagement in their children's educational and emotional growth.
2.
To create a forum which invites fathers and mothers to build healthy parenting commitments and actively engage in their children's educational as well as emotional development from pre-school through adulthood.
ABOUT
Fathers in Education was established in 2015 and has embarked on a mission to create an environment in which all fathers, regardless of economic or marital status, have the opportunity to be viewed as assets to their children’s well-being and to experience direct and unencumbered engagement in their children’s emotional and educational
outcomes. While serving this mission, from our primary objective is to create a forum that invites fathers and mothers to build healthy parenting commitments to actively
engage in their children’s emotional and educational development preschool through high school graduation and beyond. Since its inception, Fathers in Education has
operated with the primary activities led by Robert D. Johnson (National Director) and Tony Nelson (National Mobilization Director), who together
possess over twenty-five years’ experience in serving low-income fathers and families.
Our organization’s initial engagement began as the lead agency in a national network of organizations serving low-income fathers and eventually transitioned over time to focus exclusively on fathers who were under the supervision of the criminal justice system in
the state of Connecticut. During the past several years Fathers in Education has engaged and collaborated with multiple organizations and community stakeholders to advance research findings that state “when fathers are involved in their children’s
education, children do better.”
Today, over thirty public–private and community-based organizations in the state of Connecticut have expressed their support for this research and are looking forward to assessing how the findings can benefit their organizations.
